Introduction of Sugi family
Sugi Yurinosuke received a meager stipend of only 26 koku as an unpaid retainer (mukyu-dori) of the Hagi domain. He was blessed with 3 sons and 4 daughters from his wife, Taki. The family held reverence for the divine, worshipped their ancestors, upheld diligence and frugality, and maintained a strong sense of unity in their household. Being a low-paid samurai, during his off-duty hours, he and his family worked on cultivating fields, gathering firewood in the mountains, and assisted in managing the household finances. Despite their hard work, he still found time to impart knowledge and education to his children.
