Book of Condemnation

Yoshida Shoin explained that in order to save Japan from its crisis, he believed it was necessary to gather comrades and go to Kyoto to meet Manabe Akikatsu who was a senior counselor and engaged in Imperial Court maneuvering, inquiring about his opinions. Yoshida Shoin also explained that if their proposal for Sonnō jōi movement (the Movement advocating reverence for the Emperor and the expulsion of foreigners) was not accepted, he was prepared to take drastic measures, even considering the possibility of confronting Manabe.
On October 16th, he was presented with the readings of the interrogation transcript, and on the morning of October 27th, he received the final summons from the court of judgment, where he was sentenced to death.
