松陰 筆写に励む
平戸藩士葉山佐内は陽明学者であった。松陰は数多い佐内の蔵書を借り受け、読破すると同時に筆写を始めた。彼の勉学のやり方は、読書しつつ、要点を一々抄録することだった。彼は門弟に、書物は読みっ放しにするものではない。必ず要点を書き取ることが不可欠の勉強の方法であると教え、自らも実行した。九州遊学中に数多くの書物を読破した。
Yoshida Shoin worked on transcribing
Hayama Sanai, Samurai in Hirado clan was a scholar of the Chinese philosopher Wang Yangming's teachings. Shoin borrowed numerous books from Sanai and, as he finish reading them, he simultaneously began transcribing them. His method of studying involved reading while meticulously summarizing the key points. He taught his disciples that simply reading books without extracting the essential points was not an effective way to study and emphasized the importance of taking notes, and he followed his method as well. During his travels in Kyushu, he read and thoroughly understood many books.
