佐久間象山に入門

佐久間象山さくましょうざんに入門にゅうもん

佐久間象山さくましょうざんは信州松代しんしゅうまつしろの藩士はんしで、江戸えどにて儒学じゅがくを学まなび、その学識がくしきは当代随一とうだいずいいちと称しょうせられていた。佐久間象山さくましょうざんは、今いまや日本にほんに必要ひつようなのは西洋学せいようがくであるとして儒学じゅがくを捨すて、海外事情かいがいじじょうの研究けんきゅうに没頭ぼっとうしていた。江戸遊学中えどゆうがくちゅうの松陰しょういんは入門にゅうもんし、師象山ししょうざんの教おしえに開眼かいがんした。さらに象山しょうざんは海外かいがいに脱出だっしゅつして、その文明ぶんめいの知識ちしきを得えよとの使命しめいを松陰しょういんに課かした。

Become an apprentice with Sakuma Shozan.

Sakuma Shozan was a samurai of Shinshu Matsumoto domain, and he studied Confucianism in Edo, where his scholarship was acclaimed as the foremost of his time. Sakuma Shozan recognized the importance of western studies in Japan, so he abandoned studying Confucianism and immersed himself in the study of foreign affairs.
During his study in Edo, Yoshida Shoin became an apprentice and was greatly enlightened by his teacher Shozan. Furthermore, Shozan had a mission for Yoshida Shoin to escape abroad and acquire knowledge of foreign civilization.
